Ten years of Economic and Monetary Union
On the Obverse, the centre of the coin features a design representing a stylised figure merging with the Euro symbol. The subject was chosen through an online competition in which citizens of the European Union participated. Above, in an arc, the inscription 'BELGIQUE - BELGIE - BELGIEN', below, also in an arc, the inscription 'EMU 1999-2009'. Above the inscription, towards the right, is the signature of the author. To the right of the design is the mintmark and to the left the mintmaster's mark. On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

200th birthday of Louis Braille
On the Obverse, in the centre of the coin, is the portrait of Louis Braille with, on either side, 3 dots vertically to the right and 2 dots vertically to the left, i.e. 'L' and 'B' in the alphabet he invented, while above, in an arc, is the inscription 'LOUIS BRAILLE'. Below the portrait are, in an arc, the dates '1809' and '2009' divided by the Belgian symbol 'BE' with the sign of the Brussels mint on the left and the symbol of its director on the right.
