500 years since the issuance of the Carolus guilder
On the Obverse, to the right, is the bust of Charles V, facing slightly to the left, while superimposed on the lower part of the portrait is the horizontal inscription 'CAROLUS V'. On the left, next to the effigy, is the 'Carolus d'oro', the coin issued following the ordinance of 500 years ago to which this commemorative is dedicated. Also on the left, in the space between the reproduction of the coin and the horizontal inscription, is the initials 'BE' (identifying Belgium), with the minting year underneath. In the lower part, below the horizontal inscription, we note the symbol of the Belgian Mint Director (which corresponds to the coat of arms of the municipality of Herzele), the sign of the Dutch mint and the years '1921' and '2021' and the author's initials 'LL'. On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union.
