Coins of Cyprus
The Republic of Cyprus attained independence from the United Kingdom in 1960, and assumed as state currency the Cypriot Lira, which had already legal tender since 1878 pegged to the British Pound (of which it had the same value, the exchange ratio was 1:1). Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004 and since 2008 has adopted the Euro, issuing its own series with the national face. The coins of Cyprus were initially minted by the British Royal Mint, after the changeover to the Euro the minting was performed by the Finnish mint (2008-2009) and the Greek mint (from 2010).
