The Republic of Finland proclaimed its independence from the Russian Empire in 1918, but even previously (since 1860) the Finnish Markka had been used in the country, and it remained legal tender until 2002, when it was replaced by the Euro.
All Finnish coins are minted by the national Mint based in Vantaa.
