Fifth Enlargement of the European Union in 2004
The Obverse depicts a stylised pillar from which ten shoots grow, representing the new member states of the European Union. The pillar symbolises the basis for growth. At the bottom, there is the initials 'EU' while also at the bottom, to the right, are the letters 'MM' identifying the mint director and the author. On the outer part 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union and between two of them, at the top, the minting year '2004'. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription 'EURO'. Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "SUOMI FINLAND" in incuse followed by three lion heads.
