At the top, there is the arched inscription 'SUOMI FINLAND' followed to the right by the mintmark, immediately below the inscription, the minting year '2009'. At the bottom, again in an arc, is the inscription 'EMU 1999-2009' and above, to the right, the author's signature. On the outer part 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription 'EURO'. Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.

200th anniversary of Finnish Autonomy
The Obverse depicts the stylised outline of Porvoo Cathedral (where the first Diet of the Government of Finland met in 1809) with the date '1809' above it. To the left of the design, the mintmark and the initials 'FI' identifying Finland are engraved one below the other, while to the right is the minting year '2009'.
