100 years of independence
The Obverse depicts a design made up of countless dots that create the effect of a mosaic. The right-hand side of the coin depicts the cartographic outline of Finland, thanks to the dot thinning technique, while on the left-hand side is the two-line vertical inscription 'SUOMI FINLAND', followed by the years '1917' and '2017' (minting year), also written vertically below each other. The mintmark and the initials 'FI' (identifying Finland) are positioned centrally to the right, one above the other, close to the edge. On the outer part 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription 'EURO'. Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "SUOMI FINLAND" in incuse followed by three lion heads.

Finnish nature
The Obverse, in the background and centre of the coin, depicts an image of the Moon as seen from the island of Harmaja in Finland, with a raven on a branch in the foreground. Centrally flanking the reproduction of the Moon are the letters 'FI' (identifying Finland) on the left and the mintmark on the right. In the lower part is the minting year.
