Coins of France
The numismatic history of France begins in the Middle Ages, when during the period of the Kingdom the circulating currency was the Louis d'Or. With the French Revolution and the proclamation of the Republic, a new currency was adopted, the Franc, which will have legal tender for over two centuries, until 2002 when it was replaced by the Euro. In 1960 the currency was revalued, with the minting of new Franc coins, what had a value of 100 old Francs. The French coins are minted by the Monnaie de Paris, the state mint with headquarters in the capital and in the town of Pessac, where the Euro coins are currently produced.
