2 Euro Commemorative coins France 2014
70 years since D-Day
On the Obverse is the inscription 'D-DAY' arranged to represent both a landing craft and a tank. Above the cannon of the tank are the years '1944-2014', below the first D is the initials 'RF' and slightly below the entire inscription is the lettering '70th ANNIVERSAIRE DU DÉBARQUEMENT'. Further down are the typical footprints (left by the boots worn by American, Canadian and British soldiers) that are disappearing erased by a wave on which are engraved the lines of a poem by Verlaine, used as code for the beginning of the landing: "Les sanglots longs des violons de l’automne blessent mon cœr d’une langueur monotone". On the bottom left is the mintmark of the Paris Mint and on the right the symbol of its director. On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.

World AIDS Day
On the Obverse, in the centre of the coin, is the red ribbon symbolising the fight against AIDS. A total of three ribbons are depicted, one of which is in the official position and coloured red in the Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions, while the other two are reversed and associated with two Vs, symbolising the hope of victory over the disease. At the top, in an arc, we find the date '1er DECEMBER', World AIDS Day designated by UNESCO, at the bottom the initials 'RF' and the year '2014'; on the left the mintmark of the Paris Mint and on the right the symbol of its director. The right and left ribbons are also engraved with the inscription 'JOURNEE MONDIALE CONTRE LE SIDA'.
