2 Euro Commemorative coins France 2020
50th Anniversary of the Death of Charles De Gaulle and 80th Anniversary of the Appeal of 18 June
On the Obverse, there are two profiles of Charles De Gaulle, facing to the right: the one in the foreground depicts him as President of France, during his second term of office, while the one in the background shows General Charles De Gaulle in uniform, in memory of the Appeal he launched on 18 June 1940 from Radio London (this speech is considered a symbol of the French Resistance). On the left is the initials 'RF' (Republique Francaise), partly integrated into the Cross of Lorraine, chosen by De Gaulle as the symbol of free France, all partially overlapped by the profile in the foreground. In the lower arms of the Cross of Lorraine are impressed: on the left the years of the general's birth and death, "1890" and "1970", placed one below the other, and on the right the minting year. In the lower part, overlapped by the image in the background, are the mint mark and the symbol of the mintmaster. On the right-hand side is the circular inscription 'Charles De Gaulle'. On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.

On the Obverse, on the left, is a female face inside a sphere, with the arched inscription 'UNION' overlapped; on the right are DNA fragments, as if seen through a microscope. Above, on the right, is the initials 'RF' (Republique Francaise), while on the lower left, immediately below the sphere containing the face, is the minting year followed by the sign of the Paris mint, the author's symbol and that of the mintmaster, both close to the inner edge.
