2 Euro Commemorative coins Germany 2008
St. Michael's Church (Hamburg)
The Obverse depicts St. Michael's Church, symbol of the city and the Länd of Hamburg. At the bottom is the inscription representing the German Länd to which the coin refers, i.e. "HAMBURG". On the right are the engraver's initials, further up, again on the right, the mint mark, which may relate to one of the following five mints:
- A - Berlin
- D - Munich
- F - Stuttgart
- G - Karlsruhe
- J - Hamburg
On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars at the top, representing the European Union, divided into two blocks of six by the minting year, with the inscription "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND" at the bottom. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription 'EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT' (concord, justice and freedom) followed by the emblem of the federal eagle, in incuse.
