On the Obverse a scene from a 3rd century BC mosaic of Sparta depicting Europa abducted by Jupiter, who takes the form of a bull. At the bottom the inscription '2 EYPΩΩ', at the top right the mintmark, at the top left the inscription 'EYPΩΠH' (Europa). On the lower left the engraver's signature. On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union, between which, at the bottom, is the minting year. On the 2002 coins, if minted by the Finnish mint, there is an additional mintmark 'S' inserted in the star at 6 o'clock. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ *" (Hellenic Republic), in incuse.
