Summer Olympics in Athens 2004
On the Obverse, in the centre of the coin, the reproduction of the Disk of Myron, on the left the five Olympic rings with the inscription 'ATHENS 2004' above them. Above the mintmark (the Anthemion flower, depicted stylised), to the right the inscription '2 ΕΥΡΩ'. On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union and at the bottom the minting year divided in two by one of the stars. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ *" (Hellenic Republic), in incuse.
