2 Euro Commemorative coins Greece 2007
50th anniversary of the Signature of the Treaty of Rome
The Obverse depicts in the centre the design of the Treaty, surmounted by the word 'EYPΩΠH' (EUROPA), signed by the six founding countries of the European Economic Community, with the paving of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome in the background, and immediately to the right the mintmark of Athens (the Anthemion flower, depicted stylised). Above, set in an arc on two lines, the inscription 'ΣΥΝΘΗΚΗ ΤΗΣ ΡΩΜΗΣ 50 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ'. At the bottom, again in an arc, the inscription 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ', with the minting year above it. On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
