2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games
The Obverse depicts the emblem of the games, a radiant sun, source of life, highlighting the excellence (an olive branch) and power (the spiral shape in the centre of the sun) of the participating athletes. At the top, in an arc and on two lines, the inscription 'XIII SPECIAL OLYMPICS W.S.G. ATHENS 2011', while at the bottom, again in an arc, the inscription 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ', between the two inscriptions, the mintmark of Athens (the Anthemion flower, depicted stylised). On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ *" (Hellenic Republic), in incuse.
