The Obverse depicts the Euro symbol in the centre of the globe, framed by various elements symbolising its importance in the various fields (the ECB tower indicating finance, the wind stations energy, the factories for the industrial world, the ship for trade, the houses and people as symbols of the population). At the top the arched inscription 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ', at the bottom, also in an arc, the dates '2002 2012'. On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ *" (Hellenic Republic), in incuse.
