On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". 100th anniversary of the union of Thrace with Greece
The Obverse depicts the reproduction of an ancient coin minted in Thrace, in the city of Abdera, during the 3rd-4th centuries BC (coins from this place were minted with the symbol of the griffin, a mythological creature with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle and considered to be of great value). Between the image of the coin and the edge, there are: on the upper part the inscription '100 XPONIA AΠO THN ENΣΩMATΩΣH THΣ ΘPAKHΣ' (100 years since the integration of Thrace in Greek), on the lower part the arched inscription 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ' (HELLENIC REPUBLIC in Greek) and, between the two inscriptions, on the left the mintmark of Athens and, on the right, the minting year. On the inside of the ancient coin, immediately below one of the griffin's front legs, is the author's monogram. On the outside are 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value '2' on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
