Italian Euro coins
Italian Euro coins feature on the obverse themes of Italian art and culture, while on the reverse, like any other Euro issue, the face is common to all nations. The designs were chosen by the Italian population, through a television broadcast ("Domenica In", 8 February 1998) where alternative design on the coins were presented. The only exception was made for the 1 euro coin subject (Vitruvian man of Leonardo da Vinci), which was decided by the then Economy Minister, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. Each coin was designed by a different designer.
