2 Euro Commemorative coins Italy 2023
100 Years of the Italian Air Force
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts the Air Force's centenary logo: the number "100", crossed by a transversal line (intended to represent the trail of smoke emitted by the aircraft) with two military aircraft at the ends, an antique aeroplane at the bottom left and a modern jet at the top right. The design is completed by another semicircular line joining the two aircraft, where the years "2023" and "1923" are written one below the other. At the top of the coin is the monogram of the Italian Republic "RI", while at the bottom is the circular inscription "AERONAUTICA MILITARE". Enclosed between the design and the inner edge are: on the left, the mintmark "R" and, on the right, the author's initials "VdS". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

150th anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni
The Obverse, on the right-hand side of the coin, features a portrait of Alessandro Manzoni, inspired by the image of the writer depicted on the 100,000 lire note issued in 1967. On the left-hand side of the coin, near the inner edge, is the circular inscription "ALESSANDRO MANZONI", while in the space between the inscription and the effigy, there is the monogram of the Italian Republic "RI" with the years "1873 - 2023" underneath. On the right hand side, between the image and the edge, are the mintmark "R" and the initials of the author "AV.", the latter placed immediately above the left shoulder of the writer.
