Coat of arms of Latvia's rising sun
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts the motif of a rising sun (a detail found in the coat of arms of Latvia), with the monogram "BL", an acronym for "Brīvā Latvija" (Free Latvia), inside. At the top, above the image, is the circular inscription "UZLĒCOŠĀ SAULE" (the rising sun), while at the bottom is the inscription "LATVIJA" with the minting year underneath. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
