On the Obverse is a portrait of the sovereign of Luxembourg, Grand Duke Henri, facing to the right. To the left, divided by a vertical line from the portrait, are placed, also written vertically, the minting year, enclosed between the mintmark (at the top) and the mintmaster's mark (at the bottom) and the inscription "LËTZEBUERG". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union, with the engraver's signature placed at the bottom left. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "1" on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: interrupted milled.
