Effigy and Monogram of Grand Duke Henri
The Obverse depicts, on the left, the profile of Grand Duke Henri, facing to the right, while his monogram (the letter 'H' surmounted by a crown) appears on the right. To the right of the monogram, the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union, are placed in a semicircle. On the outside at the top, in an arc, is the minting year "2004" with the symbol of the director of the Utrecht Mint on the left and the mintmark on the right, followed by the inscription, also in an arc, "LËTZEBUERG". At the bottom, again on the outside, is the circular inscription "HENRI - Gran-Duc de Luxembourg". At the base of the portrait, on the left, are the engraver's initials "YGC". The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
