50th birthday of Grand Duke Henri, 5th anniversary of his accession to the throne and 100th anniversary of the death of Grand Duke Adolphe
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts the profile of Grand Duke Henri, superimposed on that of Grand Duke Adolphe, both facing to the right. Below their respective portraits are the inscriptions "HENRI" with "* 1955" at the bottom and "ADOLPHE" above the year "† 1905". Above the effigies is the circular inscription "- GRANDS-DUCS DE LUXEMBOURG -". At the base of the portrait of Grand Duke Henri, on the left, are the engraver's initials "YGC". On the outside part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union, interspersed with the letters of the word "LËTZEBUERG". At the bottom is the minting year "2005", divided by one of the stars, with the letter "S" identifying Finland to the left and the mintmark of Vantaa mint to the right. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.
