2 Euro Commemorative coins Luxembourg 2007
50th anniversary of the Signature of the Treaty of Rome
The Obverse depicts in the centre the design of the Treaty, surmounted by the word "EUROPE", signed by the six founding countries of the European Economic Community, with the paving of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome in the background. At the top, set in an arc on two lines, the inscription "TRAITÉ DE ROME - 50° ANS". At the bottom, again in an arc, the inscription "LËTZEBUERG", with immediately above it the minting year, preceded by the mintmark of the Paris mint and followed by the mintmaster's mark. On the left, partially superimposed on the treaty design, is a hologram which, when viewed from a certain angle, shows the face of Grand Duke Henri. This addition on the Luxembourg coin, which thus differentiates it from similar ones minted by other European states, is due to the fact that a Luxembourg law stipulates that every coin minted by the Grand Duchy must show the effigy of the Sovereign. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union, with the letter "F" identifying France inside the star at the bottom right. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.
Diameter: 25,75 mm
Thickness: 2,20 mm
Weight: 8,5 g
Composition: bimetallic coin (outer part: copper-nickel, inner part: nickel-brass).

The Obverse depicts the effigy of Grand Duke Henri in the foreground and the main facade of the Grand Ducal Palace in the background. At the bottom is the circular inscription "LËTZEBUERG".
