2 Euro Commemorative coins Luxembourg 2009
Ten years of Economic and Monetary Union
On the Obverse, the centre of the coin features a design representing a stylised figure merging with the Euro symbol. The subject was chosen through an online competition in which citizens of the European Union participated. At the top is the arched inscription "LËTZEBUERG", at the bottom, also in an arc, the inscription "UEM 1999-2009". Above the inscription, the author's signature "ΓΣ". Superimposed on the entire design is a hologram which, when viewed from a certain angle, shows the face of Grand Duke Henri. This addition on the Luxembourg coin, which thus differentiates it from similar ones minted by other European states, is due to the fact that a Luxembourg law stipulates that every coin minted by the Grand Duchy must show the effigy of the Sovereign. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union, also on either side of the star at the bottom, are the mint mark (on the right) and the mintmaster's symbol (on the left). The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

90th anniversary of Grand Duchess Charlotte's Accession to the Throne
The Obverse depicts the flanked portraits of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Charlotte, facing to the left. To the right, divided by a vertical line from the portraits, are, also written vertically, the inscription "LËTZEBUERG" and the minting year "2009" enclosed between the mintmark (above) and the mintmaster's mark (below). On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
