125th anniversary of the Nassau-Weilburg Dynasty
On the Obverse, to the left of the coin, the effigy of His Royal Highness the Grand-Duke Henri is depicted, while to the right, placed in a circular way and in chronological order of their accession to the throne, are Their Royal Highnesses the Grand-Dukes Adolphe and Guillaume IV, the Grand-Duchesses Marie-Adélaïde and Charlotte and the Grand-Duke Jean. In the centre is a vertical strip extending into the outer crown containing the inscription "LUXEMBOURG" and dividing the portrait of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri from his predecessors. To the right of the vertical strip, in the centre of the coin, is the minting year, followed by the mintmark and the mintmaster's mark (all oriented vertically). On the right-hand side is the circular inscription "1890 - Dynastie Nassau-Weilbourg". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". 30th Anniversary of the European Union flag
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts the flag of the European Union surrounded by twelve human figures into which the twelve stars have been symbolically transformed, representing the creation of a new Europe. The design was selected through an internet vote by the citizens of the European Union. At the top is the circular inscription "LËTZEBUERG" followed on the right by the years "1985-2015" written in an arc. Also on the right, between the design and the years, is the mark of the director of the Utrecht Mint, while further down are the author's initials. Superimposed on the design of the flag, is a hologram which, when viewed from a certain angle, shows the face of Grand Duke Henri. This addition on the Luxembourg coin, which thus differentiates it from similar ones minted by other European states, is due to the fact that a Luxembourg law stipulates that every coin minted by the Grand Duchy must show the effigy of the Sovereign. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
