Second of the "From Children in Solidarity" series: Solidarity and peace
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts two children holding the Maltese flag and, above them, flies a dove symbolising Peace; completing the design, at the bottom, is the circular inscription "MALTA" and, to the right, the minting year, also written in an arc. The author of the drawing is Katya Muscat, a secondary school student. Pupils from this school grade are targeted by the Malta Community Chest Fund's "From Children in Solidarity" programme. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO".
