2 Euro Commemorative coins Malta 2021
Heroes of the pandemic
On the Obverse, in the centre of the coin, there is a photograph of two Maltese nurses (Doreen Zammit and Charmaine Cauchi), taken by another nurse, Diane Faenza: all three work at the Mater Dei Hospital, which is the island's reference public hospital. The coin was issued as a tribute to all the health workers involved in the fight against Covid-19. At the top is the circular inscription "HEROES OF THE PANDEMIC", while at the bottom, superimposed on the image, is the arched inscription "MALTA - 2021". To the right, between the back of a nurse and the inner edge, are the author's initials "MAF". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.

Sixth of the "Maltese Prehistoric Sites" series: Tarxien Temples
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts the prehistoric temples of Tarxien, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Above, to the right, is the inscription "TARXIEN TEMPLES 3600 - 2500 BC", written on three lines. Also to the right, near the bottom of the drawing, are the author's initials "NGB". At the bottom, on the left, is the inscription "MALTA" with the minting year underneath, while, on the right, an enlarged detail of the temple portal is represented. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. There are a number of variants of this coin concerning the presence and position of the mintmark, the mint director's symbol and the letter 'F' identifying France. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
