The Obverse depicts the portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, facing left, surrounded by a field of dots and the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. On the outside are the minting year, bottom center, and the circular inscription "BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN". To the right of the minting year is the mintmark, to the left the mintmaster's symbol. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "50 EURO CENT" on the center-right part and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the left. Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
