40 years since the Carnation Revolution
On the Obverse, two curved lines reproduce the shape of the carnation, symbol of the movement, from which the name of the revolution is also derived. At the top is the inscription, in an arc, "PORTUGAL" with the Portuguese coat of arms immediately below. In the centre is the date of the historic event, "25 DE ABRIL", while at the bottom are the inscription "40 ANOS" and the minting year "2014". Also at the bottom, on the right, are the mintmark and the signature of the author "INCM - JOSÉ TEIXEIRA". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with 7 castles and 5 heraldic coats of arms in incuse.

International Year of Family Farming
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts tools commonly used in agriculture and a set of agricultural products: a hen surrounded by pumpkins, a basket of potatoes, vegetables and various flowers. On the left, is the inscription, in an arc, "AGRICULTURA FAMILIAR", while on the right, also in an arc, is the inscription "PORTUGAL" followed by the minting year "2014". At the bottom, on the left, are the mintmark and the signature of the author "INCM - H. BATISTA". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union.
