2 Euro Commemorative coins Portugal 2023
World Youth Day 2023
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts a globe formed by a Pilgrim's Cross (one of the symbols of the Lisbon meeting), surrounded by a set of figures of different sizes and reliefs, which are intended to symbolise the multi-ethnicity of the young participants; the design is completed, in the lower part, by two hands embracing the whole (to represent the Pope's welcome and the sense of inclusion of this event). In the upper part, near the inner border, is the circular inscription "JORNADA MUNDIAL DA JUVENTUDE", followed on the right by the inscription "LISBOA 2023". In the lower part, from right to left, are: the coat of arms of the nation, the inscription "PORTUGAL" and the names of the Portuguese mint and the author "CASA DA MOEDA - JOÃO DUARTE", written in an arc and one after the other. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.

Peace among nations
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts an armillary sphere (an astronomical instrument made up of several metal rings used to define the motion and position of the stars). Dotted around the sphere are (like a sun with its rays) 16 terms, each meaning "PEACE" in the 16 official languages of the Eurozone countries. Adjacent to the inner edge, the following circular inscriptions are impressed: on the left, the name of the Portuguese mint "CASA DA MOEDA", while at the top, the name of the author "José S. Teixeira", the inscription "PORTUGAL" and the minting year.
