500 years since the death of Raphael
The Obverse depicts a detail of the fresco "Madonna di Casa Santi", one of the earliest works attributed to Raphael, painted in the family home in Urbino, which is now the seat of the Raphael Academy. Near the border, from top right, is the circular inscription "SAN MARINO", while between the inscription and the image are the year "1520" (the year of the artist's death) and the minting year, written one below the other. On the left, between the image and the edge, the mintmark "R" can be seen. In the lower part, immediately below the design, are: in the centre, the inscription "RAFFAELLO" and, on the right, the author's initials "A.M.". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

The Obverse depicts a detail (the bust of an angel) from the painting "Angel rescuing Hagar", a work by the painter Giambattista Tiepolo, conserved in Venice, in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. At the top, near the edge, is the arched inscription "TIEPOLO" and, between the inscription and the image, is the mintmark "R". At the bottom, on the right, is the circular inscription "SAN MARINO", while between the inscription and the angel are the year "1770" (the year of the artist's death) and the minting year, written one below the other. On the left, near the design, the author's initials "C.M." can be seen. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union.
