450 years since the birth of Caravaggio
The Obverse depicts a detail of Caravaggio's oil painting "Penitent Magdalene", a work conserved in the Doria Panphilj Gallery in Rome. On the upper part, near the edge, are the circular inscriptions "SAN MARINO" and "CARAVAGGIO", separated by a dot. On the left, immediately below the inscription "SAN MARINO", are the years "1571-2021", written in an arc, while on the right, between the inscription "CARAVAGGIO" and the image, is the mintmark "R". At the bottom left, between the edge and the design, is the symbol with the author's initials "SP". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

The Obverse depicts the oil painting "Madonna and Child with the Pear", by the german artist Albrecht Dürer, conserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. On the left, near the edge, is the circular inscription "SAN MARINO", while in the space between the inscription and the image, the mintmark "R" can be seen. To the right, from top to bottom, between the design and the inner edge, are: the monogram of the painter's initials, the arched inscription "DÜRER" and the author's initials "VdS". At the bottom, below the representation of the painting, are the years "1471 - 2021", written horizontally. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union.
