The Obverse depicts Saint Marinus, an image inspired by a painting of the School of Guercino (17th century). On the right, the minting year and the mintmark "R", on the left, in an arc, the inscription "SAN MARINO", preceded by the author's initials. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union, with the engraver's signature at the bottom between two stars. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "20 EURO CENT" on the center-right part and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the left. Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
