Republic of San Marino - new coinage Lira coins
The period known as "New Coinage" of the Sammarinese Lira began in 1972, due to a new monetary agreement between the Republic of San Marino and the Italian Republic. The mint of Rome, to which production was entrusted, minted one series of coins for each year, having the same dimensions, materials and values as Italian Lira, but with different designs. Initially, values of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 lire were issued, later were added the 200 lire (in 1978), the 500 lire (in 1982) and finally the 1.000 lire (1997). In 2002, by virtue of the agreements with the Italian Republic, San Marino adopted the Euro (even if it's not part of the European Union) and the production of the Sammarinese Lira ended.
