Universitas Istropolitana – 550 years since the start of teaching
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts: in the foreground, a teacher and two students drawn in a seated position and, in the background, the facade of the historical building where the Istropolitana University of Bratislava had its seat. In the top left-hand side, King Matthias Corvinus, founder of the University, is depicted inside a small medallion, with the year of foundation "1467" immediately above it. Centrally, again on the left, is the arched inscription "UNIVERZITA" with the mintmark "MK" and the author's initials "MP" below it, while the circular inscription "ISTROPOLITANA" is at the top right. In the lower part, near the design, is the horizontal inscription "SLOVENSKO" followed at the bottom by the minting year. On the outer part 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA" and two stars interspersed with a lime leaf.
