Coins of Spain
The numismatic history of the Kingdom of Spain begans with the first currency, the Spanish Real, introduced in the middle of the 14th century and circulating in the country until 1864, when it was replaced by the Spanish Escudo, which was legal tender for a few years, until 1868, when the Spanish Peseta was introduced.
The Peseta was the currency of Spain for more than a century, until 2002, when it was replaced by the Euro.
The Spanish coins are minted by the "Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre - Real Casa de la Moneda", the Royal Mint based in Madrid.
