2 Euro Commemorative coins Vatican City 2015
VIII World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts the members of two families united in an embrace that symbolically extends to the entire planet; in effect, a globe placed at the centre of the family members completes the design. The image is surrounded by two circular inscriptions: at the top we find "VIII INCONTRO MONDIALE DELLE FAMIGLIE", while at the bottom "CITTA' DEL VATICANO"; the two inscriptions are divided by two dots. Included between the inscription and the design are, on the left, the author's name "C. Principe" followed upwards by the engraver's initials "E.L.F. INC." and, at the top, the minting year. The mintmark "R" is engraved on the right, on the arm of one of the family members. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.
