Holy Year of Mercy
The Obverse, in the centre of the coin, depicts St. Martin of Tours on horseback, while holding his sword, sharing his cloak with a poor man kneeling on the ground. The image is surrounded by two circular inscriptions: on the left is "GIUBILEO DELLA MISERICORDIA" and on the right "CITTA' DEL VATICANO". Between the inscription and the design is the minting year on the right. The mintmark "R" can be seen at the bottom, with underneath the author's signature "M. CRISCIOTTI" to the left and the engraver's name "MOMONI INC." to the right, along the edge. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO".
