100 years since the birth of Pope John Paul II
On the Obverse, the effigy of Pope John Paul II is depicted on the right, while on the left, there is a radiant sun with the home where He was born and the Basilica in Wadowice underneath. At the top left is the circular inscription "PAPA GIOVANNI PAOLO II", while at the bottom is the arched inscription "CITTA' DEL VATICANO". To the right, between the image and the edge, are the years "1920 2020", set in an arc, while in the space between the years and the image, the mintmark "R" can be seen. At the bottom, immediately below the bases of the buildings, are the author's signature "G. TITOTTO" and the engraver's initials "M.A.C. INC.", while on the right, the bust of the Pope partially hides a laurel branch. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

500 years since the death of Raphael
The Obverse depicts, on the left, the artist Raphael Sanzio's self-portrait from his work "School of Athens" (a fresco located inside the Vatican Museums), while on the right are the two famous angels from the painter's work "Sistine Madonna" (conserved in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, one of the most important museums in Europe). Also on the right-hand side of the coin are: the circular inscription "RAFFAELLO SANZIO" with the years "1520" and "2020" written one below the other, on the lower part, below the image of the two angels, the two-line inscription "CITTA' DEL VATICANO", with the mintmark "R" immediately below it, and further down, near the inner edge, the author's signature "D. LONGO" and the engraver's initials "SP INC". On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union.
